Story Line

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better...

As most of Tim Burton films, he delivers lots of fun with that dark creepy humor of his... from starting to end the nice tortured family-man vampire character played by Johnny Depp lures compassion and laughter, dressed in 18th century attire comfortably fits in to 1970's and at times even evokes a Michel Jackson cartoon figure… excellent performances of all the cast… not a complex story yet, cinematographically well done, an amusing watch

I enjoyed the homage to the original TV soap opera "Dark Shadows".
The waves crashing on the rocks was constantly being repeated as it was in the original.
That cracked me up...

The humor that Johnny Depp delivered was enough for the viewers to drive their, and my curiosity, but if you're not familiar with the original TV version, you might find yourself overwhelmed (confused) with all the information thrown at you.
It made the TV series work, but I've read some other viewers were saying to themselves WTF?!

I know this is a remake of the soap opera that is called Dark Shadows. From what i was told, the original is very dark while this movie is very 'Tim Burton strange' and try to be a campy comedy. It's okay for a one-time watch.
